Porto Airport Trains

Porto airport is severed by the Porto Metro, which is a light railway network that runs underground in the city centre, and above ground on the outskirts. The Metro has 6 different lines which cover 7 different metropolitans of Porto. These include Porto, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde and Vila Nova de Gaia. The metro covers 67 kilometres (42 miles) and has a total of 81 stations.

The airport station is just a short walk from the terminal and is well signposted. At the airport, you will board a train on line E, which is also known as the Violet Line. Travelling on this line to your destination is the preferred option for many passengers, as its frequent, efficient, clean and a cheap public transport system.

Porto Metro Line E (Violet Line) – Airport to City Centre

The so-called Violet Line is a dedicated line that connects Porto Airport to Estádio do Dragão in the city centre. There are 21 Intermediate stops on this line, including the popular stops of Casa da Musica, Trindade Station and Campanha Station. A complete trip along this line will take about 35 minutes. 

The Metro departs the airport at intervals between 18 and 35 minutes, depending on the time of day, and operates between 06:00 to 00:30.

Fares & Routes

You can download a map of the Porto Metro network here. This map shows the complete network with all the stops, so planning your route will be easy. The exact fares of your journey are determined by your destination, but the minimum fare is the €1.20 and the maximum fare is €1.95.

Ticket can be purchased from the ticket office at the airport. There is no need to buy a ticket online in advance.

Andante Card (Tourist Card)

If you intend to travel on the Metro a number of times or to travel on other public transport systems, there is a cheaper service available by purchasing the Andante card. This card will allow you to travel an unlimited number of times within a period of time and can be used in the Metro, STCP Buses, other selected bus lines, and urban trains.

There are 2 types of cards available:

  • Andante Tour 1 - 24 hours unlimited travel costing €7.00
  • Andante Tour 3 - 72 hours unlimited travel costing €15.00

These cards can be bought at the following locations:

  • Andante shops
  • CP ticket offices selling Andante
  • Tourism Information Offices at the airport and in the city centre
