Porto Airport Transfers & Taxis
Taxis are readily available on the ground floor of the terminal and are considered one of the best ways to travel between the airport and the city centre. At the taxi stand, you will see many different companies operating taxis. By law, all taxis all have to be metered and the prices are all distance-based, you can expect the prices to be the same with each taxi.
You can expect to travel from the airport to the city centre in around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic and the time of day, so they are faster than the buses and the metro, with the added benefit of a door-to-door service. A one-way trip will set you back between €20.00 and €30.00 between 06:00 and 21:00 Monday to Friday, but you will find charges can be up to 20% more in the evenings, on a weekend, and on a national holiday.
Other transport means which include the SCTP buses and the Metro do not operate 24 hours, so a taxi is especially the right option for a late night or early morning arrival, or if you have lots of luggage. It can also be more practical if you have young children.
All taxi drivers are helpful and friendly and have a good knowledge of the English language.
Some useful point to be aware of:
- If you have any luggage in excess of 55cm x 35cm x 20cm a fee of €1.60 will be charged.
- Items such as prams and wheelchairs are free of charge.
- If you travel on a toll road, such as Via do Infante, you will be asked to pay the toll fee. Taxis drivers should ask you before you travel on a toll to inform you first.
- If you book a taxi by telephone the fee will be increased by €0.80.
- Taxi fares are based on 4 passengers.
- Tipping is left to your discretion. It's not obligatory.
- It is compulsory for the driver to give you a receipt.
Although taxis can only carry up to 4 passengers, it is possible to request a large taxis by phone. If you require a larger taxi, or if you would prefer to pre-book, it can be done using any of the following.
How about Booking a Private Transfer?
If you are intending to book online, or if you want to consider other means of transportation, a private transfer may be suitable for you. Private transfers offer a door-to-door service like taxis but they can offer transportation for large groups. They are also more suitable for families with young children as they carry for instance child seats, which taxis don't.
A private transfer can also take you in more luxury if you choose, be it in a Mercedes-Benz E Class or Audi A6, but economy vehicles are also available if you just want to get to your destination. A one-way transfer in an executive vehicle will cost just under €35.00, or an economy vehicle for around €21.00.
